It seems I made a mistake.
You see, I thought going to Joshua Tree was my first experience of a National Park in America, but I was reminded that I previously visited Crator Lake in Oregon, and it too is a National Park.
These great American road trips - amazing as they are - take a lot out of me (and Teka). We have to cram in as much as possible in the short amount of time I’m able to be in the country.
But I do my best.
I often get comments along the lines of … “You went to [inset place] and you DIDN’T visit my favorite [insert specific place]? You may as well have not bothered.”
I must admit, these comments grate a bit, as I really do try my best to see as much as I can. In the short amount of days I’m able to spend in the US, the only way I’m able to see such a diverse range of places is by going fast.
So until y’all give me a visa, slow travel to America is out of the question!
Anyway, Joshua Tree was absolutely incredible. We loved everything about it.
Teka, being a huge Queens of the Stone Age fan, was living her Desert Rock best life, and pictured all the great music video scenes that came out of a place like this.
We both gazed in wonder at the rock formations and the desert plant life.
And then I found a tarantula! If my comments are anything to go by, seeing a tarantula is as normal as having a morning coffee, but for this Scottish man, you may as well have put me in Jurassic Park!
We loved every second of it.

Shaun: TwinkleDad here. Don’t worry about covering EVERYTHING that your subscribers advise as “must sees.” Enjoy your life as much as you can wherever you can. You’re a good guy with a big heart and a solid companion (Teka) who shares your interests and wanderlust. And never forget your core manifesto: “Adventure Everything.” It doesn’t matter what other people think. We don’t follow you to see that. We follow you to see what YOU think and experience … and we all appreciate the work that you do and the passion with which you pursue it.
I just hope you and Teka enjoy your visits. There’s a lot to experience and I’m glad you’re going at a pace what works for you and Teka. You’ve seen more of my country than I have. Best of luck on your journeys.
